“Prism for Enlightenment” is a visual and aural video installation intending to awaken the environmental-awareness necessary to inspire individual lifestyle habits that cumulatively will slow the climate crisis and help conserve the earth. This video consists of 120 photographed paintings continuously displayed in random order and audio which sounds as each painting is shown. Due to the random and continuous nature of the video, each moment appears and sounds unique.
Every painting abstractly captures the sunlight and shadows of the current moment by juxtaposing a thin line of fluorescent color against a translucent background. In creating a painting every day, for 120 days, I aim to bring awareness to the constant energy and power of the sun. Paintings are created using watercolors and recycled paper, which reflect the water, trees and oxygen essential to sustaining life. Using synthesizers and prepared-piano, the audio evokes the activity and abruptness of light.
This fast-paced video, while offering inspiration to everyone, especially aims to engage a young generation who, through technology and social media, have become visual learners. It is important to instill the environmental-awareness which motivates individual change to this generation, as they inherit the state of our planet.
