Ecdysis
My series, Ecdysis, is about metamorphosis. The word Ecdysis means shedding the old skin or molting. This series has many layers of fabric and paint, which I peel back to see the reality of that moment in time. Using a large palette knife I scratch into the surface dragging left over paint. I’m curious about the struggle and control that it takes to paint, and the many complex layers of the mind. I'm playing with the tug of war between fabric and paint, which creates a tension across the wood panel. This duality manifests itself within a realization of self-examination that only happens when the mental psyche is in extreme isolation. Only then can the mind’s eye begin to unfold with new growth.
